Refuge Retreat with Vows (for those who wish to take them) 2nd - 5th April | 2 Day Course March 21st and 22nd (You may attend either day or both days - whichever suits you best) Why do we suffer, and are we stuck with our suffering? with Buddhist monk Kelsang Gyaltsen DAY 1, 21st March 2010 Why do we suffer? Can we change our lives? Karma means “action”, and it refers to the actions of our body, speech and mind. For every action we perform we experience a similar result. Suffering is created by our own actions or karma – it is not given to us as a punishment. Gyaltsen will explain why things turn out the way they do and how we can determine our future experiences. DAY 2, 22nd March (public holiday) Are we stuck with our suffering? Having committed negative actions in our past lives and possibly our current life, we have created the causes to suffer a similar effect in future. Is it definite that we now must wait to experience these unpleasant consequences, or is there a method to deal with and eventually remove them altogether? On this day Gyaltsen will present reliable Kadampa Buddhist methods for removing these negative potentialities from within our minds. Everyone is welcome. Details: Times: Sunday and Monday 10h00 – 16h00 Venue:VKBC, 4 Francis Road, Blairgowrie Cost: R120.00 per day, or R200 for both days A vegetarian lunch will be served on both days, and costs include lunch and refreshments. | Words of Wisdom "Just as there is room in the sky for a thunderstorm, so there is room in the vast space of our mind for a few painful feelings; and just as a storm has no power to destroy the sky, so unpleasant feelings have no power to destroy our mind. When painful feelings arise in our mind, there is no need to panic; we can patiently accept them, experience them, and investigate their nature and where they come from. When we do this, we shall discover that painful feelings do not come to us from outside but arise from within our own mind."
