A Peaceful Mind in a Painful Body with Gen Mila

A 4-week series of meditation classes in Johannesburg on turning life’s difficulties into inner strength.

When our body is ill, the mind often suffers twice – once from the illness, and again from worry and fear. Meditation is not a replacement for medical care, and Buddhist teachers are clear that we should see a doctor when we need one. But meditation can ease that second layer of suffering. We learn to meet illness with patience, and a beautiful meditation called “taking and giving” that turns our own difficulty into a doorway to compassion.

Do you ever feel that life hands you more than you can carry? Disappointment, hurtful people, money worries, health problems – sometimes it all piles up, and joy seems very far away.

Buddha’s teachings offer a surprisingly hopeful message: our happiness depends far more on our state of mind than on our circumstances. Worry, low mood and hurt are experiences of the mind – and the mind can be trained. With gentle, patient practice, even the situations we would never choose can become sources of strength, wisdom and a quiet, steady joy.

In this four-week series of meditation classes in Johannesburg, we look at four situations everyone meets sooner or later, and learn practical ways to meet each one with a calmer, kinder and more positive mind.

In these classes, Gen Mila will share practical methods to develop positive ways of thinking, both in meditation and daily life so we can experience a deeper sense of happiness, increase our good qualities and bring immense benefit to those around us.

Class format includes a short talk, guided meditations and discussion.

Start at the beginning of the 4 week series if you can, but if you miss the beginning then start when you are able.

Everyone is welcome.
