Amitayus Retreat – Buddha of Long Life, Wisdom & Good Fortune with Gen Kelsang Mila
A Special Method for Increasing Life Span, Wisdom, and Good Fortune
Traditionally February following Venerable Geshe Kelsang’s advice, Kadampa centres around the world engage in short retreats of Buddha Amitayus. the Buddha of long life, wisdom and good fortune.
The practice of Amitayus is very important for everyone because we need a long life to complete our spiritual practice. If we lose this life , we lose the opportunity to enjoy a human life, practice Dharma and attain liberation and enlightenment. We also rely on Amitayus to increase our wisdom and good fortune through which we will make our life happy and meaningful.
Our human life is our most precious possession because it gives us the opportunity to improve our happiness continually, ultimately enjoying the supreme happiness of enlightenment. We therefore need a long and healthy life. To ensure we are successful in our efforts, we also need wisdom, and the merit or inner good fortune that enables the growth of spiritual realisations.
On this retreat we have the opportunity to increase our lifespan, good fortune and wisdom, through the special meditation practice of Buddha Amitayus.
What is Retreat?
Retreat means we emphasize a particular spiritual practice. Gen Mila will give some suggestions on how to gain the most out of the Retreat. There will be periods of gentle silence observed.
